Hate preacher Qatada faces life in jail over ‘plan to flee the country
By CrimeWatch  Tuesday, November 11, 2008

imageRadical cleric Abu Qatada could be sent back to jail permanently after being caught allegedly plotting to flee to the Middle East.

Home Office lawyers will appear at a hearing of the Special Immigration Appeal Commission to present what they say is proof that the fanatic has breached his strict bail conditions.

If the SIAC agrees, the extremist - described as Osama bin Laden’s ambassador in Europe - will be returned to Belmarsh high-security prison in South East London.

Home Office officials, however, would still prefer to deport him to his native Jordan.

Qatada was released from Long Lartin jail, in Worcestershire, in June after convincing the courts that a return to his homeland - where he is wanted on terrorism charges - would breach international human rights law.
